After the update, every was fine until this morning. (I haven't set the software to update automatically). I could see an Avast "flag" - a red cross beside the Avast icon - in the notification area and discovered that the definitions were out-of-date. Last Sunday, when I switched on my laptop, it took about three times the normal time to get through the startup stages before the desktop appeared. Avast appears to release new virus definitions every Sunday morning.
